Manchester United have one of the deepest and best squads in world football at this point of time. There is no question about that. And considering that, their start to the season has been underwhelming to say the least. At this moment of time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are fourth in the Premier League, third in their Champions League group and already out of the League Cup.
The amount of individual quality in this squad right now is incredible. And the competition for places is clear to see in every position on the pitch.
Even then, one player who stands out from the rest is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar has been one of the best players in the world for more than a decade-and-a-half. And he is showing no signs of stopping till now.
He scored a hattrick against Luxembourg while with the Portugal national team yesterday to extend his own record of international goals scored. And Roy Keane described him as a ‘genius’. While speaking on ITV and as reported by Manchester Evening News, the Manchester United legend said:
"“Do I say it again? The man’s a genius. Absolutely amazing, what a player.”"
Ronaldo continues to score for both Manchester United and Portugal
Ronaldo is one of the greatest players in the history of the game, there is no doubt about that. And if he did not play at the same time as Lionel Messi, he probably would have won twice the number of Ballon d’Or awards that he has.
There were a lot of questions when he arrived at Manchester United this summer about whether he can still get it done in the Premier League or not. The early signs have suggested that he definitely can.
At 36 years of age, he might not longer be in his prime as a footballer but he still remains one of the best goalscorers in world football.
