Manchester United have one of the strongest squads in all of Europe right now following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton over the summer. Now though, the focus must shift towards keeping the players already at the club.
It is believed that they are closing in on a new deal with Bruno Fernandes. But two players whose contracts they need to extend more urgently are Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.
Both of them will become free agents by the end of the season. And while Pogba’s future at Old Trafford remains up in the air, it looks like the club could let Lingard depart soon if the situation does not change.
As reported by The Sun, Manchester United will consider a cut-price January transfer exit for Lingard if he continues to refuse a new deal.
Manchester United will consider letting Lingard leave
Lingard has not been a regular in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI this season or in a long time for that matter. But, he has still played an important role for the team.
The manager has brought him in on late on multiple occasions and he has proven to be a very effective player off the bench, even scoring the winner against West Ham United. He has also scored for the England national team recently.
Thus, Manchester United would surely like to keep hold of Lingard if they can and it is believed that they have already offered him fresh terms. But it remains to be seen if the player is interested in continuing to play this role for the Red Devils or if he intends to go somewhere else and play a lot more football.
He is certainly a man in form. He was absolutely spectacular on loan for West Ham United last season and has looked very good whenever given the chance this season as well. And at 28 years of age, he is in the prime of his career as a footballer.
