Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United this summer was a much celebrated one and rightfully so. The Portuguese superstar had already established himself as a legend at Old Trafford during his first stint with the club and is now back to build upon that legacy, after over a decade away.

During that period of time, he has been able to establish himself as one of the best players in the history of football though, after a legendary run with Real Madrid that produced four Champions League titles and landed him four Ballon d’Or awards as well. His time at Juventus was not as memorable.

Individually, he has enjoyed a great start to his second stint at Manchester United as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals in 6 appearances for the club across all competitions this season till now.

The team’s performances since his arrival have left a lot to be desired though. They have slipped down from first to fourth in the Premier League table, find themselves in a tricky situation in their UEFA Champions League group and are already out of the League Cup.

Manchester United need to solve their Ronaldo problem as soon as possible

There is no doubt about the fact that Ronaldo is still a brilliant goalscorer and a matchwinner. We saw proof of that against Villarreal just a few weeks earlier.

But, it does look like this Manchester United team has not quite gotten used to playing with Ronaldo up front. In the game against Everton, we saw Cavani start and they looked a lot more fluid going forward for large parts of that game.

Thus, Solskjaer needs to find the perfect role for Ronaldo in this team and make sure that they are all on the same wavelength. Ronaldo scoring goals is great but it won’t matter if the club does not produce positive results on the pitch.

If they are to challenge for titles this season, the manager needs to get the best out of Ronaldo and this team at the same time.
