Paul Pogba’s Manchester United future has been the centre of speculation and rumours for a long time. Over the years, he has been linked with an Old Trafford exit several times. And with his contract set to run out at the end of the season, he would be able to walk out as a free agent soon if he does not end up extending his deal with the Red Devils by then.
Pogba is an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team and has made a brilliant start to the 2021/22 campaign, playing some of the best football of his career in a Manchester United shirt. As a result, it is believed that the club want to hand him a new long-term contract.
Some rumours have even suggested that he is open to staying at Old Trafford for the long-term. But the French midfielder is yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension. And, it appears that he is keeping all his options open for the time being.
When asked about the possibility of a return to Juventus, Pogba told Sport Mediaset (via GOAL):
"“I always talk with my former teammates at Juventus, [Juan] Cuadrado, [Paulo] Dybala… Now I’m a Man Utd player, I still have a year on my contract, then we will see.“I want to finish the season well there, then we’ll see.”"
Will Pogba extend his contract with Manchester United?
Recent rumours have suggested that Pogba is open to the prospect of extending his contract with Manchester United. But one has to feel though that it could come down to how the club’s season turns out.
Those rumours had first emerged after Cristiano Ronaldo made his second debut for the club against Newcastle United and scored a brace. Since then though, it is safe to say that things have not gone as Manchester United would have expected.
Over the following six games, Manchester United have won just twice, drawn once and lost three times. As a result, some serious questions have been raised about whether the club are ready to compete for titles this time around despite the high expectations.
