While Manchester United’s start to the season might have been underwhelming there is no denying the fact that the club have some of the best players in the world in their squad right now. And hopefully, players of this quality will be able to turn the season around, and take them back to the top of the Premier League table soon.

The quality of Manchester United’s squad is proven by the presence of their players amongst the best in the world. As reported by the Mirror, the 30-man shortlist of nominees for the 2021 Ballon d’Or has been allegedly leaked.

The two Manchester United players on the shortlist are Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, which most people probably would have expected. But there is argument to be made that more should have made the shortlist.

The Premier League is well represented, with 14 players from England’s top flight. Having played the Champions League final, it should not come as a surprise that there are 5 players each from Chelsea and Manchester City. Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur are also among the nominees.

While there a couple of players from Manchester United on the shortlist, one could easily also make a case for someone like Luke Shaw, who enjoyed a spectacular year with both club and country.

At the end of the day though, hopefully it will only motivate the players to do even better moving forward. Manchester United certainly need some improvement upon their recent performances, having won just two of their previous six matches across all competitions.

Coming back to the Ballon d’Or, the winner will be officially announced on November 29 later this year. Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski are believed to be two of the frontrunners for the award at this time.
