Recently, things have not gone Manchester United’s way. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had made a bright start to the campaign but have failed to impress lately, winning just two of their previous six games while losing three of them. As a result, they find themselves out of the League Cup already, fourth in the Premier League and in a tricky situation in the Champions League.
One man who has been a bright spot in this recent run is Cristiano Ronaldo, who has enjoyed a great individual start to his second stint at Old Trafford. But has he had a negative effect on the team as a whole?
It is too early to come to such a conclusion. There is no doubt that Ronaldo is still a spectacular footballer and a match winner. But Juventus did take a step back in both Europe and domestic competition over his three seasons in Turin.
Manchester United must be careful that the same doesn’t happen to them as well. As a result, they need to figure out a role for Ronaldo in this team as soon as possible.
Manchester United need to solve Ronaldo problem as soon as possible
It was Edinson Cavani who started the game against Everton while Ronaldo was left on the bench. And it must be said that going forward, Manchester United looked a lot more fluid than they have in recent times.
It does appear that the Red Devils are yet to figure out the perfect role for Ronaldo in this team. He will get you goals consistently without a doubt. But there are other aspects of the game that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to keep in mind as well.
Now, it is almost impossible for any manager to not start Ronaldo when he is fit and available. But Solskjaer has to make sure that Ronaldo’s presence is taking this team towards their goal of lifting trophies once again instead of the other way.
