While Manchester United have not enjoyed a great start to the season, there is no denying the fact that they have one of the strongest squads in world football right now. So much so that Edinson Cavani does not appear to be a regular in the starting XI right now despite his brilliant 2020/21 campaign for the Red Devils, following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

Ronaldo has enjoyed a bright start to his second stint at Old Trafford and as a result, Cavani might end up struggling to get regular playing time this season.

Cavani’s current contract with Manchester United runs out at the end of this season but he is being linked with an Old Trafford exit in January itself.

As reported by El Nacional, FC Barcelona have their eyes set on Cavani in January while Real Madrid are also keen on the striker. A loan deal could be a possible solution.

The Manchester United striker is wanted by both Barcelona and Real Madrid

Cavani joined Manchester United on a free transfer last season and after a slow start to life at Old Trafford, he came into his own in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

At that point of time, he appeared to be one of the best strikers in world football and found the back of the net on a consistent basis for the Red Devils.

Not too long ago, he was expected to be the man leading the line for Manchester United this season but Ronaldo’s return appears to have changed things in that regard. And now, Cavani leaving the club in the foreseeable future does not seem impossible even though it does feel a bit unlikely.

If Cavani does end up leaving, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial would be the two players providing cover to Ronaldo up front.
