Manchester United legend makes worrying Cristiano Ronaldo claim
It is safe to say that Cristiano Ronaldo has enjoyed a brilliant individual start to his second stint at Manchester United. He has already shown that he is still capable of finding the back of the net on a consistent basis and his winner against Villarreal in the Champions League proved that he remains as big a match winner as ever.
But the club’s form since his arrival has not been great at all. Since his second Manchester United debut against Newcastle United, the Red Devils have won just three of their previous seven games.
As a result, they are already out of the League Cup, find themselves in a tricky position in their Champions League group and have slid down the Premier League table over the last few weeks, currently sitting at fourth behind the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
And Gary Neville believes that Ronaldo walking off the pitch following the recent draw against Everton will only increase the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. As reported by Sky Sports, the Manchester United legend said:
"“Cristiano is smart enough to know actions like that will bring real pressure on the manager – more than he is already under.“It is what it is, but I think that is something that has to be managed in the next couple of months.“Cristiano is not always going to score and he maybe can’t play every game. But if he’s going to walk off like that, it’s going to put immense pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”"
Manchester United have to improve over the upcoming months
With the additions that they made over the course of the summer, Manchester United were expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season. And while they are still not far away from the top of the table, it must be said that their recent performances have been cause for worry.
The Red Devils cannot rely on Ronaldo to deliver in every match. At the end of the day, he is 36 years of age and is going to have off-days once in a while.
He did not start the game against Everton but did come on before the hour mark. The Portuguese superstar could not find a way past the Toffees’ defence this time around though and the two sides ended up playing out a 1-1 draw.
