Manchester United superstar will miss Villarreal game

Things have not gone Manchester United’s way in recent weeks as they have lost three of their last four games. And it looks like it will be a bit more tougher when they face Villarreal next, in the group stage of the Champions League as injury worries have now hit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as well.

The Red Devils lost the opening game of their group stage campaign against Young Boys. And as a result, it will be very important for them to get a positive result from the Villarreal game. Of course, they lost the Europa League final to the Spanish side last season and that should serve as extra motivation.

When the two sides meet though, it looks like Manchester United will be without their captain. Harry Maguire was forced off injured in the recent game against Aston Villa and it appears that he has not recovered in time for the Villarreal game.

Speaking at his press conference and as reported by Manchester United’s official website, Solskjaer said about Maguire’s situation:

"“Harry is, more or less, definitely out and it doesn’t look good.”"

Luke Shaw, who also came off injured vs Aston Villa, might have a chance to feature although he has not trained with the team:

"“Luke has been in today so I’ll give him a chance to be involved. He didn’t train with the team.”"

Maguire set to miss Manchester United vs Villarreal

Missing Maguire will be a huge blow for Solskjaer’s side. Over the past year or so, he has become one of the most dependable players in the team and is a leader on the pitch as well. Thus, Manchester United will surely miss him when they face Villarreal.

Another player that looks unlikely to play in the game is Shaw. He too, has been spectacular in recent times and might very well be one of the best left-backs in world football right now.

It goes without saying that Manchester United are a better team with the duo on the pitch. And their injuries have come at the worst possible time for the team, when they are in the middle of a poor run of form.
