Borussia Dortmund want Manchester United star as Haaland replacement

Erling Haaland is arguably the most highly-rated youngster in world football right now. And most of the top European clubs, including Manchester United, are believed to be looking to sign him next summer. As a result, it should not come as a surprise if Borussia Dortmund are already eyeing players as potential replacements for the Norwegian striker.

Next summer, a release clause is believed to become activated in Haaland’s contract and he is expected to join another club then. Although, as we know, things can change in football very quickly and one cannot rule out the possibility of him staying at Borussia Dortmund.

As reported by SPORT1 (via Daily Mail), Anthony Martial is one of the players on the list of Borussia Dortmund targets if Haaland was to leave next summer. His potential transfer fee could be a huge stumbling block though.

Martial has not been in good form for Manchester United in recent times and rumours have suggested that the Red Devils are open to the prospect of letting him leave in the future.

A move away from Old Trafford might not be a bad idea for Martial at this point of time. He has not been at the top of his game for a good while now and seems to be lacking in confidence in front of goal.

As a result, a change of scenery could do the Frenchman a world of good. While he might not be in good form at the moment, there is no question about his talent or ability. Coming through the youth ranks, many saw him as a future Ballon d’Or contender. And it is safe to say that he has not quite fulfilled his potential yet.

On the other hand, Manchester United are themselves believed to be very interested in signing Haaland and it will be interesting to see if they can bring the Norwegian superstar to Old Trafford.
