It was a bad game for Manchester United in more ways than one. Of course, the biggest setback coming out of the game was the defeat. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in the middle of a bad run of form at the moment, having lost three of their last four games. The Red Devils are already out of the League Cup, lost their opening game of the Champions League campaign and have slid down the Premier League table in recent weeks.

And now, it appears that they have injury issues to worry about as well. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, who have been two of the most consistent players for Manchester United in recent times, had to come off injured in the game against Aston Villa after picking up knocks.

Now, it looks like their availability for the upcoming Champions League game against Villarreal is in doubt.

While speaking with BBC and as reported by Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer said about the situation:

"“At the moment they don’t look OK for Wednesday but let’s see.”"

Manchester United have been handed Maguire and Shaw injury blow

Both Maguire and Shaw have been huge parts of Manchester United in recent times. The centre-back was one of the most consistent players in the team last season while the left-back was so good that he has now established himself as a regular in the England national team.

Thus, one can only hope that they have not suffered any long-term injuries and will be back in action soon. The Red Devils do have decent cover in both those positions and their short-term absence would not be a massive worry for Solskjaer’s side.

What is most important for this Manchester United team now though is to start winning games again. They had built up some solid momentum at the start of the campaign but have now lost it after a series of bad results. Hopefully, they will be able to turn it back around soon.
