Manchester United find themselves in a good position right now when it comes to the Premier League. They have won four and drawn one of their opening five games and sit joint top of the table at the moment along with Chelsea and Liverpool, both of whom have a better goal difference than the Red Devils though.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have not had a great time in Cup competitions. They were handed a 2-1 defeat by Young Boys in the opening game of their UEFA Champions League campaign and then were knocked out from the League Cup by West Ham United in the third round.

For a club that has not won a trophy in four seasons, that will be a massive disappointment as every competition is a chance to end that streak.

On the other hand, one player who is coming off of winning the UEFA Champions League is Timo Werner. But it looks like if things had gone a bit differently, he could have been playing for Manchester United right now.

Werner originally wanted to join Manchester United

As reported by SPIEGEL (via BILD), Werner originally wanted to join Manchester United and not Chelsea.

Considering how things have gone since last season, it would be interesting to know what he thinks now. While individually he has had a tough time in front of goal, he played a huge part in Chelsea’s Champions League winning campaign last season.

While the goals might have dried up at one point of time, he continued to contribute with his incredible positioning and ability to drag opposition defences. And while he struggled to find the back of the net himself, he did set up his teammates on several important occasions.

Could he have been a good signing for Manchester United? That cannot be said with certainty but there is no question about the fact that he is a very effective footballer. And if he can start scoring once again like he did at RB Leipzig, he would be considered one of the best players in the world.
