Despite their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Young Boys in their UEFA Champions League group stage opening game, Manchester United have a lot to be positive about at the moment. The Red Devils sit at the top of the Premier League table after four games and have brought in some incredible signings over the course of the summer transfer window.

Of course, things are not perfect but they are certainly looking up. One would hope that once this team gels better together over the course of the coming months, they will be even better.

At this point of time, Manchester United must definitely be considered as one of the frontrunners in the Premier League title race. And it looks like there is further good news on the horizon for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

As reported by The Sun, Bruno Fernandes is closing in on a new five-year contract with the club worth more than £250,000-a-week.

Fernandes looks set to sign a new Manchester United contract

The Portuguese playmaker is believed to have been in talks over a new deal for months and now it appears that he is close to putting pen on paper.

It is the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo as well as the significant investment that the club made in the summer transfer window that is believed to have persuaded Fernandes into extending his stay at Old Trafford despite links with European giants like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent times.

This is a massive boost for Manchester United. Fernandes has arguably been the club’s best player ever since arriving at the Theatre of Dreams in January of 2020. The consistency of both his performances and his output has been absolutely incredible. And at 27 years of age, he is in his prime as a footballer. Thus, the Portuguese superstar is expected to be a major part of this team for the foreseeable future.
