Sir Alex reveals his role in Ronaldo’s Manchester United return
Cristiano Ronaldo is back at Manchester United. And he looks as good as ever. The Portuguese superstar scored twice on his second debut for the club to help them to a 4-1 win against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Of course, one could argue that Freddie Woodman could have done better with both of those. He spilled the first one on to the path of Ronaldo while the second one went through his legs. But they all count as long as they go in.
Of course, there will be tougher tasks ahead but when it comes to returns, this was a brilliant one to Old Trafford for Ronaldo.
At one point of time though, it was looking like he could be headed to Manchester City. It is safe to say that that would have been hard to watch for any Manchester United fan. Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be one of the people who played a part in Ronaldo ultimately deciding to return to Old Trafford. Speaking with Viaplay and as reported by Metro, he said regarding the move:
"‘I’m exited like everyone else, there was anticipation all day yesterday and waking up in the morning. I speak for all supporters it’s a great day for Man Utd.‘A lot of people played their part (in bringing Ronaldo back) and I contributed knowing that really Cristiano wanted to come here and that was important.‘It worked very well.‘I wouldn’t say it’s emotional but it’s exciting for me and relief because I couldn’t imagine him playing for Man City, I don’t think anyone could.‘That’s why we took steps to make sure he came here and the club then followed in very well and I spoke to the Glazers and it was done.‘I think he will make an impact on the young players in particular, he’s got the experience to handle the occasion.’"
Ronaldo is looking like a brilliant signing already for Manchester United
Ronaldo came straight into the side and scored a brace against Newcastle United. And he is already looking like a brilliant signing on the part of Manchester United.
Now 36 years of age, many have questioned whether he can make the adjustment to the Premier League at this stage of his career. But although he is no longer in his prime, he remains a brilliant footballer.
Ronaldo has never stopped scoring goals over the years. Even last season, he was the top scorer in Serie A and topped the scoring charts at EURO 2020 as well. And considering the start that he has made at Old Trafford, fans must be very excited about what is to come over the course of the season.
