Midfield is an area that Manchester United are already a bit short of options in when compared to other positions on the pitch. And now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to have been handed another worry in the middle of the park.

As reported by BBC, Brazilian football authorities have triggered a FIFA rule to prevent eight Premier League players from appearing for their clubs for five days. This is because the Premier League stopped players from appearing for their national teams if it meant travelling to red list countries. Players not released for an international window can be banned for five days after the window ends under FIFA regulations. This decision will last from September 10 to September 14.

One of the clubs affected will be Manchester United as Fred is set to miss the upcoming Premier League game against Newcastle United as well as the club’s UEFA Champions League opener against Young Boys.

This will be a blow for Solskjaer’s side as Scott McTominay has just returned to training after surgery and it remains to be seen if he will be available for selection in those games.

Fred looks set to miss Manchester United’s next two games

Fred has been a regular in the middle of the park for the Red Devils for quite a while now. And with the lack of options in the middle of the park recently, his absence could certainly be a big miss for the team.

It goes without saying that Fred brings something different to the middle of the park in Solskjaer’s side. And while he is not a flashy player, he is the type of player that every team needs in their squad.

With Fred looking set to miss the club’s next two games and question marks over McTominay’s availability, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic could be the midfield duo Solskjaer looks towards in the upcoming games.
