Manchester United are three-time winners of the Champions League. The last time the Red Devils lifted the trophy though, Sir Alex Ferguson was still the club’s manager and Cristiano Ronaldo had not won his first Ballon d’Or yet.

Thirteen years on and the Red Devils must be considered as contenders for this season’s UEFA Champions League title. On paper, the club certainly do have a squad that should be able to compete for any trophy either domestic or European.

The return of Cristiano Ronaldo on top of signing the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has one of the most complete squads in the world to pick his team from.

Well, they have already named the 25-man squad for the group stage of their upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign. As reported by Manchester Evening News, this is what it looks like:

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Tom Heaton, Dean Henderson.

Defenders: Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles.

Midfielders: Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny Van de Beek, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Jadon Sancho, Amad.

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani.

Phil Jones misses out on Manchester United’s 25-man UEFA Champions League group stage squad

Both Lee Grant and Phil Jones have been left out of the 25-man squad selected for the club’s upcoming UEFA Champions League group stage matches.

While Grant signed a one-year contract extension earlier this summer to remain at Old Trafford, Jones has not played any competitive football for over a year due to injury.

Mason Greenwood has been named on the B-list but will still be eligible to feature for the Red Devils because of the fact that homegrown players under the age of 21 do not to need to be part of the registered squad.

Manchester United have been drawn with Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys in Group F this season.
