Bruno Fernandes has been an absolute superstar ever since joining Manchester United in January of 2020. It is safe to say that since then, he has most probably been the club’s best player.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 40 goals and provided 25 assists in 80 appearances for the Red Devils. Those are incredible stats for an attacking midfielder.

As a result, he is expected to remain a massive part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans moving forward. One man who has not enjoyed such a smooth start to life at Old Trafford is Donny Van de Beek.

The Dutch midfielder arrived at the club from Ajax after a brilliant spell there. But he has not quite found his feet in English football till now. Van de Beek spent a lot of the time on the bench and could not break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s regular starting XI last season.

Some recent rumours had even linked Van de Beek with an Old Trafford exit but it looks like the midfielder is getting ready to compete for his place in the first-team and has bulked up during the off-season. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, when asked about it, Fernandes said:

"“Yes he’s working hard and working hard in the gym. Obviously he is one of the quality players we know and now he’s building up.”"

Can Van de Beek make an impact in Manchester United’s first-team next season?

Van de Beek showed incredible potential during his time at Ajax and was considered as one of the best young midfielders in the world at one point.

When the Red Devils signed him, it was considered as a major coup on their part and he was perhaps the club’s marquee signing last summer. It goes without saying that things have not quite turned out how one would have expected.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, the Dutchman scored once and provided 2 assists in 36 appearances last season.

If he wants to break into the first-team, he will have to be more effective. But it is perhaps natural for young players to take some time to adjust after coming to England from other European leagues. We have seen that numerous times in the past. Hopefully he can rediscover his form soon and start delivering.
