Raphael Varane compared to Manchester United legend
It is safe to say that Manchester United are having a tremendous summer transfer window. They have already signed Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, and have reached an agreement to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
Someone like Varane can be very important to this side, as they look to bring an end to their four season streak of not winning a trophy. As a result, someone with his combination of world-class quality and top level experience can prove to be very vital.
He can be almost a perfect fit in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as the partner of Harry Maguire in the heart of their defence. And they could form one of the best defensive duos in world football.
Patrice Evra appears to rate the French World Cup winner very highly, even comparing him to Rio Ferdinand. While speaking to The Athletic and as reported by The Sun, he said:
"“Varane reminds me of Rio Ferdinand.“Great with the ball, great in the air. He’s the complete centre-back.“I remember his first game with the French national team and I was so impressed.“He was so young yet so good with the ball, so fast and his anticipation was perfect.“He’s calm with the ball and he can score too.“It’s a top, top signing for Manchester United.”"

Varane can be a great signing for Manchester United
For quite some time, defence had been considered one of the weak areas in Solskjaer’s side. The arrival of Varane could very well turn it into one of their strongest positions though. If the Frenchman can settle into English football, the Red Devils might arguably have the best backline in the entire Premier League.
Even Varane’s style of play can be a good compliment to Maguire’s and it will be very interesting to see how the two gel together over the coming months.
It is certainly very exciting to see him being compared to Ferdinand, especially coming from Evra, who played with the English centre-back for so long and with Varane for the France national team. And there are certainly quite a few similarities between the two.
Solskjaer’s side were very difficult to beat last season. And the addition of Sancho and Varane should make them even better. It is certainly a very exciting time to be a Manchester United fan.
