With just a year left on his current deal at Real Madrid, Raphael Varane could very well be on his way out of Santiago Bernabeu this summer. And at this point of time, if he was to leave, Manchester United appear to be the favourites to sign the French World Cup winner.

Varane has been one of the best defenders in Europe for a long time now and thus, it is not hard to see why the Red Devils would be interested in signing him.

Recent rumours have suggested that Varane is open to an experience in the Premier League as well. Thus, it might come down to the two clubs being able to agree a deal for the transfer to go through. But that might not be easy though.

As reported by the Mirror, there is a £10 million difference between the transfer fee that Real Madrid want for Varane and the transfer fee that Manchester United are willing to shell out to sign him. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs but the Spanish giants are holding out for a £50 million transfer fee while the Red Devils are willing to shell out £40 million.

Can Manchester United sign Varane this summer?

It goes without saying that Varane could prove to be a brilliant signing for the Red Devils. He has a brilliant combination of world-class ability and experience.

As a result, he could be the perfect fit in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as the partner of Harry Maguire in the heart of their defence. But the question is – can the two clubs agree a deal for the defender?

Also, if the Frenchman is to leave Real Madrid this summer, other clubs are expected to be interested in his signature as well. Thus, the transfer saga dragging on would be a worry for the Red Devils. The best possible scenario for them would be to get a deal over the line as soon as possible. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds.
