Manchester United have made a great start to the summer transfer window, already signing Tom Heaton and having agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

While Sancho is expected to have a first-team role immediately and make the right wing position his own, it does not look like the club will stop here. Instead, rumours surrounding the club and new signings have only intensified over the last few days.

A defensive midfielder is what the Red Devils could be looking to sign this summer. And one man that they have appeared to have on their radar for quite a while is West Ham United’s Declan Rice.

Rice just had a brilliant EURO 2020 campaign as England made it all the way to the final of the tournament but ultimately lost to Italy on penalties. The 22-year-old was one of the most important members of Gareth Southgate’s plans though and was one of the most consistent performers for the national team at the Euros.

Manchester United star not keen to be included in swap offer

As reported by ESPN, Jesse Lingard would not be keen to be used as a makeweight in any negotiations to sign Rice.

Lingard had a tremendous spell on loan at West Ham United last season and was one of the best players in the Premier League during his time there. As a result, it should come as no surprise that the Hammers want him back.

And Lingard is rumoured to be open to the idea of moving to West Ham United on a permanent basis himself. In fact, recent rumours have suggested that he might be edging closer towards a move. But he is not keen on that happening by being a part of a swap plus transfer fee deal to sign Rice.

Rice has three years left on his current deal with West Ham United and as a result, the club do not appear to be in any hurry to let him go. The player might be looking to leave though in search of regular Champions League football.
