Manchester United transfer rumour appears to be false
Manchester United are expected to strengthen in a number of positions over the course of the summer transfer window as the club will be looking to bring an end to their four year streak of not winning a trophy. One of those positions is centre-back.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice pairing in the heart of their defence for quite some time now. But there is a feeling that it is an area on the pitch where the Red Devils could improve even further.
As a result, the club have been linked with several centre-backs over the last few months and at this point of time, Raphael Varane appears to be at the top of the club’s wish list.
Some recent rumours had even suggested that Donny van de Beek could be included in a deal for the French World Cup winner. But it does not look like that might be the case after all. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted out that the Dutch midfielder has not been involved in negotiations as part of a deal for Varane:

Can Manchester United bring Varane to Old Trafford this summer?
It goes without saying that signing Varane would be a massive boost for the Red Devils in their quest to bring silverware back to Old Trafford.
The French centre-back has a brilliant combination of world-class quality and top level experience. He has won some of the biggest competitions at both club and international level. And Solskjaer’s side could certainly do with a player with that kind of pedigree.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the club are able to agree a deal with Real Madrid for Varane. The French international only has a year left on his current deal with the Spanish giants and could very well be on his way out of Santiago Bernabeu this summer. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also been linked with the 28-year-old in recent times.
