A new centre-back could very well be near the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wish list now that Manchester United have managed to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

There is a belief that the Red Devils could improve further in the heart of their defence. As a result, a number of centre-backs have been linked with a switch to Old Trafford over the past few months. One of them is Raphael Varane.

The French World Cup winner has been one of the best defenders in Europe for years now and would be considered a major coup for any club if they could sign him. And with just a year left on his current deal, he could be headed out of Real Madrid this summer.

But as reported by Marca, Real Madrid are in no rush to let Varane leave. Manchester United have offered around €45 million while they are looking for a €60 million transfer fee. The Frenchman also has not absolutely asked to leave till now.

Can Manchester United get a deal for Varane over the line this summer?

It goes without saying that signing someone like Varane would be a major boost for the Red Devils. He has a great combination of world-class quality and top level experience. As a result, he might very well be the perfect partner for Harry Maguire in the heart of defence.

It won’t be easy to get a deal for him over the line though. If Varane was to leave, a number of clubs would be expected to be interested in signing him. Clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for him recently.

And while the Red Devils are rumoured to be favourites for his signature at the moment, things can change very quickly in football.
