A transfer fee of £80 million is what Manchester United shelled out to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City in 2019. And after a tough start at Old Trafford, the Englishman has established himself as one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League.

In the 2020-21 season, Maguire led a much-improved backline for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. He also formed a formidable partnership at the back with Victor Lindelof.

But even then, the Red Devils conceded 44 goals from the 38 league matches. It was the most for any side in the top four. And there is a feeling that defence is an area that the club could improve further in.

As a result, they have been linked with a number of centre-backs in recent months, who could end up partnering Maguire in defence. But could they end up signing another Leicester City man to fill the role?

Manchester United interested in Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu

It looks like Manchester United have added Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu to their transfer wish list. Journalist Ekrem Konur tweeted out:

Talks between the two clubs are scheduled to take place soon. Soyuncu joined Leicester City from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2018.

Thus, Maguire and Soyuncu have already spent a season together in the past. But that season, the Turkish international did not feature much in the first-team.

It was only when Maguire left for Old Trafford, that Soyuncu came into The Foxes’ first-team and ended up having a spectacular season. Assertive both on and off the ball, he also has a brilliant ability to read the game and be one step ahead at times.

The Red Devils are not the only club interested in the Leicester City man though as Chelsea are also believed to have him on their radar. On the other hand, the Red Devils have been linked with several other centre-backs through the course of the last few months.
