Manchester United showed a lot of progress and promise last season, finishing second in the Premier League and as runners up in the Europa League final. But ultimately, they were unable to secure silverware and it was their fourth straight season without winning a trophy.

Thus, it goes without saying that that streak needs to come to an end as soon as possible. As a result, it would not be surprising to see the Red Devils make a few signings in the summer transfer window.

One player that they have been heavily linked with in recent months is Raphael Varane. The Real Madrid superstar has only a year left on his contract and could be on his way out of Santiago Bernabeu in the near future. On the other hand, the Red Devils find themselves in a similar situation when it comes to Paul Pogba, who also has just a year left on his current deal.

As reported by AS (via Express), Manchester United are open to including Pogba as part of a swap deal for Varane.

Could Manchester United pull off blockbuster swap deal in the summer?

There is no doubt that Pogba is one of the best players at the club right now. But with his contract quickly running out, there is a big chance that he could be on his way out of the Theatre of Dreams in the very near future.

In that scenario, it would make a lot of sense for the Red Devils to try and include him in a swap deal for Varane, who also looks set to depart the La Liga giants in the not too distant future.

Varane could come in and immediately solidify this defence. And in the current financial climate, such a move could be very smart on the part of both the clubs. Now, it remains to be seen whether there is any possibility of it happening or not.
