Manchester United set to complete first summer signing

Manchester United are expected to improve their squad further in the upcoming summer transfer window. While the Red Devils might have had a good campaign, it ultimately ended in disappointment with the club losing the Europa League final against Villarreal.

Thus, it was another trophyless campaign for the club, the fourth straight season that it has happened. And it goes without saying that they would want to pick up some silverware as soon as possible in order to end that streak.

One area of the squad that is very strong is their goalkeeping department. They have two great goalkeepers in the form of Dean Henderson and David de Gea competing for the first-team gloves.

But Sergio Romero is set to leave at the end of this season, with it looking like Tom Heaton is on his way back to Old Trafford in order to replace the outgoing Argentine goalkeeper. Fabrizio Romano has said that the deal is ‘done and completed’ with the player set to undergo his medical and sign with the club in the next weeks. The transfer expert tweeted out:

Heaton set to make his Manchester United comeback

Heaton came through the Manchester United academy but left the club before making a single senior appearance for them in search for first-team football.

Since then, the goalkeeper has managed to carve out a successful career for himself in both the Championship and the Premier League. He has featured for the likes of Cardiff City, Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa after leaving the Theatre of Dreams, even appearing for the England national team on a few occasions.

Now, with his contract at Aston Villa running out and Emiliano Martinez very much the starter for them, the 35-year-old is set to make his return to Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.
