Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Manchester United for quite some time now as his stay at Juventus has not been as successful as most would have expected.

The Portuguese superstar had an incredible time at Real Madrid, establishing himself as one of the greatest players in the history of the game during his stint with the La Liga giants. But his time in Turin has not been nearly as fruitful.

After dominating European football with Real Madrid, the Serie A giants would have been hoping that he could guide them to the Champions League title, when they signed him in 2018. That has not been the case and although Ronaldo continues to deliver on the pitch, as a team it has looked like Juventus have taken a step backward.

At this point of time, they sit at fourth in the Serie A table, equal on points with Napoli, who are third, and AC Milan, who are fifth. Thus, there is a genuine possibility that they could end up missing out on Champions League qualification.

Manchester United have been approached by Jorge Mendes regarding Cristiano Ronaldo

If Juventus are unable to qualify for the Champions League, that could open the door for Ronaldo to leave the club. On one hand, holding on to him would be difficult for the Italian giants without Champions League football, especially in the current financial climate.

On the other hand, you have to wonder – will Ronaldo want to play in the Europa League?

As reported by Tuttomercatoweb (via Give Me Sport), Jorge Mendes has contacted Manchester United regarding Ronaldo. And it looks like the Red Devils could be open to offering the Portuguese legend a wage of €15 million, potentially on a two-year deal. This is a massive development considering that the general feeling was that a move might not be on the cards.

At this point of time, it looks unlikely that Ronaldo will consider those terms though as it would represent a pay-cut around 50%. But if Juventus fail to qualify for the Champions League, he might end up reconsidering it.
