The last few days have been eventful to say the least for Manchester United. At first, it had looked like the club were going to be one of the twelve set to create the European Super League.

The idea of the new 20-team competition drew a lot of criticism though as it was supposed to have 15 guaranteed spots for the founding members while the rest of the 5 would be awarded based on teams’ performances from the previous season.

And the financial incentive of being in the competition meant that it would further widen the gap between the top teams and the rest. As a result, fans did not take too well to the idea and ultimately, all of the Premier League clubs withdrew after coming under immense pressure from all corners of the football world.

Amidst all this, news emerged that Manchester United executive vice-chairman would be stepping down from his role at the end of the year and he might not be the only senior figure headed for the Old Trafford exit.

John Murtough could reportedly be shown the Manchester United exit door as well

As reported by Football Insider, Murtough is believed to be fighting to save his job after news emerged that Woodward is set to leave at the end of 2021.

It is believed that Murtough is set to lose his biggest supporter at the club in the form of Woodward.

It was only in March that Murtough was appointed as the club’s first ever football director. Thus, it would come as a huge surprise if the club did decide to make a change this quickly. But back then, nobody could have expected how the entire European Super League saga would go down.

It remains to be seen how things will turn out and only time will tell whether Murtough remains at Old Trafford or not.
