Manchester United are expected to make a few signings in the upcoming summer transfer window and strengthen their squad even further as they aim to return to the top of English football and challenge for titles on a consistent basis.

And one area that they will be expected to make a few moves in is at striker, with the club having struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis for quite some time now. But one striker in the form of Edinson Cavani could be headed the other way.

The Uruguayan arrived at Old Trafford last summer and has looked good when on the pitch. He has struggled with injury issues though, which have seen him spend time on the sidelines. And he has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford already with Boca Juniors being touted as his most likely destination.

Marcos Rojo has already made the switch from the Red Devils to the Argentine giants, having completed the move earlier this year. While speaking with ESPN and as reported by Manchester Evening News, the former Manchester United player revealed that Cavani seems interested in a move to Boca Juniors as well:

"“I think he speaks very well of the club and Argentine football.“When I told him that there was the possibility of coming to Boca, he told me that he had also spoken with Roman and that he liked the option very much, that he would be interested in the future.“He has to make that decision with his family.”"

Could Cavani make the switch from Manchester United to Boca Juniors?

As the rumours continue to grow, it looks very possible that the Uruguayan striker could be headed out of Old Trafford in the near future. And that would be a blow for the Red Devils.

While Cavani has had his injury issues this season and at 34 years of age, is no longer a long-term option for Manchester United, he has shown that he can still get it done when fit. And with the lack of options up front for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, he might very well be the best striker that they have in their ranks at this point of time.

His contract is set to run out at the end of the season and although there is believed to be an option to extend it for another year, he could very well decide to move to the Argentine club instead.
