After a huge 1-0 win away at the San Siro against AC Milan in the second leg of their Europa League tie, Manchester United have made it into the quarter-finals of the competition where they will take on La Liga side Granada.

The Spanish club have enjoyed a dream run in their first ever European campaign. They knocked out Napoli in the Round of 32 and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s former side Molde in the Round of 16 to make their way into the quarter-finals.

And while the Red Devils will be heavy favourites going into the game, it would be a huge mistake to count Granada out. As they have shown already, they are capable of springing a surprise.

It is clear though that Solskjaer is not taking the opponents lightly despite them playing their first ever campaign in Europe. While speaking with Manchester United’s official website, he said:

"“They’ve done well in La Liga and we know we’re up against a team that will be technically very good and tactically very good.“They beat Molde so they must be very good! [Smiles]”"

Manchester United could be favourites for the Europa League this season

Now that we are in the quarter-finals of the competition, there is a very real possibility that the Red Devils could go on to lift the trophy this season. In fact, they will be one of the strong favourites to do so from here on.

Of course, there are other strong teams left in the competition and it will not be easy by any stretch of the imagination. But the team must be confident in their ability, especially with their incredible form away from home and their new found solidity at the back which has seen them keep one clean-sheet after another.

This is a great opportunity for Solskjaer to win his first trophy as the manager of the club. And although there is still a long way to go, he should be happy with his side’s chances going into the quarter-finals of the competition.
