Manchester United managed to keep their title hopes alive with a 1-0 over an in-form West Ham United side that have top four ambitions of their own this season. And although Manchester City are still the favourites to win the Premier League, at least it keeps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the picture for the time being.

This was an important game for both sides. Losing could have resulted in the Red Devils being caught up in the middle of a top four race and that is exactly what David Moyes’ side would have been aiming for coming into the game.

Of course, there was the element of luck involved in the win. Ultimately, a Craig Dawson own goal ended up separating the two sides. But sometimes you need a bit of luck in football.

At the end of the day, three points are three points. And Manchester United fans will be delighted with the win in what was a tough game, both on paper and on the pitch.

Manchester United Player Ratings vs West Ham United

Here’s how we rated the Manchester United players in their 1-0 win over The Hammers:

Dean Henderson – 6.5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

Victor Lindelof – 7

Harry Maguire – 7

Luke Shaw – 8.5

Scott McTominay – 7

Fred – 5

Daniel James – 5

Bruno Fernandes – 7

Marcus Rashford – 5

Mason Greenwood – 7

At this point of time, the only thing Manchester United can do is win their games in hand and hope that Pep Guardiola’s side slip up.

But while the Premier League title should be the aim, they cannot forget that top four is not secure yet and things could change over the next couple of months. Thus, this was a massive win in that respect.

Yes, it was not a spectacular performance and a number of players did not perform up to the mark. But it was enough to get all three points and that is all that matters in the business end of the season.
