Despite having a terrible start to the Premier League season and suffering a 6-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in their third league game of the campaign, it is safe to say that Manchester United have recovered very well and currently find themselves in the middle of a title race, which not many would have expected.

And it can be said that Bruno Fernandes has played one of the, if not the biggest role in their recent successes. The Portuguese international arrived at Old Trafford at the end of January in 2020 and since then has been United’s most influential player.

The former Sporting Lisbon star has scored 22 goals and has provided 13 assists in only 39 appearances so far for the Red Devils this season and being an attacking midfielder, it is quite an astonishing record.

But despite his incredible form, United were not able to hold on to the top spot of the Premier League for long, with City quickly taking the lead. And Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that Fernandes has started to appear frustrated in recent weeks.

Ian Wright believes that the Manchester United has appeared ‘frustrated’

As reported by Sport Bible, Ian Wright said on his Wrighty’s House Podcast, that Fernandes appears to be getting frustrated and termed the Portuguese a ‘perfectionist’ who can get upset at times:

"“I look at Bruno Fernandes and he just seems to be getting more and more frustrated with people when I’m watching him.“I don’t want people to take this wrong and say, ‘Oh, Wrighty’s digging him out,’ I’m not digging him out, I just look at leaders like him, he’s obviously the leader of Manchester United, it’s blatantly obvious to see.“Dennis [Bergkamp] was the leader for us on the pitch and I never saw him get frustrated with individuals to the point where he was turning and doing that thing because it’s so demoralizing for you.“He looks like a perfectionist, if everything is not bang on perfect he seems to be upset.”"

While Manchester United have exceeded expectations this season and currently finds themselves sitting near the top of the Premier League table and still competing in three competitions, it is hard to deny that things have fallen a bit flat in recent weeks, which has seen them fall considerably behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.

And if United are to return to the top of table, they will need Fernandes to be on top form. But of course, he cannot do it all on his own and those around him need to step up as well, and hopefully they will.
