Liverpool suffer massive blow ahead of Manchester United clash
Liverpool have been handed a massive blow ahead of their all-important clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
A couple of months ago, nobody could have expected Manchester United to be at the top of the Premier League. Just think of their first three league games of the season.
They suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace in the season opener before somehow coming out with a 3-2 win from Brighton and Hove Albion under controversial circumstances. And then, they suffered a 6-1 defeat at home at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.
At that point of time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have been one of the favourites to get sacked. Now, he might be on the verge of guiding the Red Devils back to the pinnacle of English football.
Standing in their way are Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who have been left considerably weakened due to the multiple injuries they have suffered this season. And the area that has suffered the most damage is their defence. Both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are out for the foreseeable future.

And according to the Mirror, when they take on Manchester United, Joel Matip might not play either as he is running out of time to prove his fitness. It was against West Bromwich Albion that he had featured last.
Fabinho has filled in amidst all these injuries at the heart of defence and Jordan Henderson had to play at centre-back in their 1-0 loss against Southampton. Their attack has looked completely out of form in recent games as well. As a result, it is no wonder that they are winless in their last three Premier League games and in danger of falling out of the title race if they lose against the Red Devils.
This is a golden opportunity for United to open a big gap between them and their long-time rivals. And although there are still questions about whether Solskjaer’s side are real title contenders or mere pretenders, a win against Liverpool will prove to be a massive confidence boost.
