Manchester United are reportedly in talks with the South American giants in order to secure a January transfer for their out-of-favour star.

2020 was a peculiar year, as has been the Premier League season so far. Prior to the beginning of the campaign, it was impossible to imagine Manchester United battling alongside the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the very top spot. And yet, here they are.

After the appalling start that United endured this term, them sitting at the top of the table is quite an unexpected sight. Dreams of a plausible title challenge continue to capture the minds of the fans, with the club hoping to conclude some transfers in the January transfer window to help in that cause.

An out-of-favour player in the form of Marcos Rojo is one of the many names linked extensively with a move away from Old Trafford this month.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Boca Juniors are holding initial talks with Manchester United over a potential January deal Rojo. Though, no concrete offer has yet been made by the Argentine side for the veteran defender.

The 30-year-old hasn’t made a senior appearance for the Red Devils this season. However, unlike Sergio Romero and Phil Jones, he was included in Manchester United’s 25-man Premier League squad earlier this campaign.

He has since been sidelined because of several dubious reasons, including injuries. Signed for £16 million in 2014, Rojo is capable of playing as a centre-back as well as a left-back. That being said, Sheffield United are also reportedly monitoring his situation.

With Manchester United, Rojo has won a FA Cup, an EFL Cup and a Europa League title. Making 122 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils through the course of his career, he will certainly leave for free next summer when his contract will end. But for now, as reported by Romano, only ‘a serious offer’ could lure the Argentine away from Old Trafford.
