The struggling Premier League side want to sign the Manchester United outcast in the January transfer window in order to solve their own issues.

Amidst the global pandemic and the financial crisis, some Premier League sides, currently sitting at the top half of the table, might consider thinking twice before making a move in the January transfer window.

But the same can’t be said about the ones that see themselves hovering at the wrong end – the bottom half of the table. Maybe for the sake of staying in the Premier League next year, they would have to look to reshaping their squad this month.

Despite showing a lot of promise with their flamboyant style of play, Brighton and Hove Albion, sadly and quite shockingly, remain a side fighting in the relegation zone.

Adding to that, some inter-squad conflicts are also going on within Graham Potter’s side. And one of them certainly revolves around their number one, Mathew Ryan. Speaking to The World Game, the Australian international said:

"“The day before the Fulham game, the manager told me he’d be giving the other goalkeeper [Robert Sanchez] a substantial to run to see how he goes, and would be keeping Jason Steele as his second choice as he likes the way he fulfils the role.“He added that if I get a good offer in January I should take it, knowing that I want to be playing week-in week-out.“It came as a shock and a surprise that he said that. Knowing where I stand now, from what was communicated to me, perhaps it might be better that we do go our separate ways.”"

And should Ryan depart in January in search of first-team football, Sergio Romero will emerge as Brighton’s number one target, reports Daily Mail.

More from Manchester United News

Signed from Sampdoria in 2015, Romero has made 61 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, helping them win one FA Cup, Europa League, and League Cup title till date. He had always been the second fiddle to David de Gea until Dean Henderson returned to Manchester following his two-year stay on loan at Sheffield United last summer.

Having failed to cut into Solskjaer’s squad this season, the 33-year-old is now training on his own in Argentina as far as the recent reports suggest. A reasonable number of suitors, including David Beckham’s Inter Miami, are keeping tabs on Manchester United’s out-of-favour veteran.

Neither Romero nor Ryan is free to leave in January, with the former’s contract set to expire in June 2021 and the latter’s the following summer. And there is no guarantee of regular playing time should the Argentine make a switch to the southern coast of England.

Furthermore, the story reveals the Red Devils are holding talks with an unnamed Spanish side, with the early signs suggesting nothing but a six-month loan deal.
