Jamie Carragher has made a bold prediction regarding Manchester United’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
At the start of the season, not many would have expected Manchester United to be in the middle of a title race. Yes, they had started out brilliantly when football returned from lockdown to finish third in the Premier League but then fell off by the end of the campaign, going without a trophy once again.
This time though, they are very much in the title race with Liverpool. And if they manage to come out with a win against Aston Villa, then they will go joint top with Jurgen Klopp’s side. Not bad for a club that was in turmoil a month ago.
While many are still questioning whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are genuine title contenders, Jamie Carragher seems to have no doubt in his mind that the Red Devils can get the job done.
As reported by Metro, he said:
"“The more I see them, the more convinced I am that it could happen. I do not believe they have radically improved, but such is their firepower they have the ability to win games without producing 90-minute performances.“We have seen it so often this season where they have gone from dire one minute to brilliant the next, and their away form makes them dangerous. The biggest reason they have a chance is because the country’s two outstanding sides —Liverpool and City — have dropped back.“United could be one of the major beneficiaries of this unique season because the title could be won with little more than 80 points. United are among those who could hit that mark, especially if they remedy their poor results at Old Trafford.“In Bruno Fernandes they have one of the Premier League’s outstanding players. A word of warning, though. I am yet to be convinced United are a well-balanced, consistent team. They still have problems.“You cannot keep relying on the attackers to get a team out of trouble, and their goalkeeper issue needs to be resolved. David De Gea is still making too many mistakes.“If Dean Henderson does not get a run in the side to prove United will not need to sign a new keeper at the end of the season, what was the point of bringing him back to Old Trafford?”"

Carragher does make a lot of sense here. Yes, Manchester United have not put in too many great performances over 90 minutes this season. In fact, you could count them on one hand. But they have developed the incredible habit of finding ways to win games even when they are not performing well.
The extra-time win over Wolves in an otherwise dire display was proof of that. And if they can keep doing that, then there is no reason that they cannot clinch the title.
The fall in the consistency of Liverpool and Manchester City has been a huge helping factor as well. Klopp’s side have drawn two back-to-back games to let United within touching distance.
It is true though that Solskjaer’s side need to improve in certain areas of their game. They cannot expect their attackers to rescue them every time. There have been times this season when they failed to deliver and results have not been as rosy on those days.
