The Manchester United star has been tipped to depart Old Trafford in the January transfer window in search of regular game-time.

After a stumbling start to the Premier League season, that saw them suffer a 6-1 demolition at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United have made a remarkable turnaround. As things stand, the Red Devils sit at a comfortable fourth with a game in hand, winning which will see them jump up to second.

One player who is starting to get a few chances recently after sitting out for most of the season is Daniel James. He had a spectacular performance against Leeds United which saw him get the nod in the game against Leicester City as well.

His performance yesterday was not as spectacular though. He was brought off early in the second half and one has to wonder if that means he will be back on the bench for the foreseeable future once again.

Danny Simpson believes that James should leave Old Trafford in January. As reported by Express, he said:

"“For me I don’t think he’s quite good enough for a Man United team that wants to go and win the Premier League.“When he first came in he broke into the team at Man United and he was scoring goals and he started really well.“But it just doesn’t seem to be happening for him.“He sometimes looks a little bit lost when he’s on the pitch. Whether that’s his confidence, I’m not too sure.“Maybe he prefers to play on the left wing instead of the right wing.“But we keep hearing rumours that he keeps getting linked to Leeds in January and these rumours don’t come from nowhere.“Maybe it could be time to go and play football week in, week out, instead of playing one game out of every four or five which it looks like he’s not that type of player, he probably needs to play every game to build up his confidence and to show what he can do.”"

To be very honest, it is unlikely that Solskjaer will give James too many more chances through the course of the season. Yes, he has started the last two games. But that is more of an exception rather than the norm.

And with the club likely to go after another winger in either January or next summer, James’ opportunities are expected to be much more limited. Under such circumstances, it would make sense for him to leave United in search of a team where he will be afforded consistent playing time.

There won’t be a lack of interest in the Welshman. Leeds United are reported to be very interested in acquiring his services. And it is not hard to understand why, considering the performance he put in against Bielsa’s side. Burnley and Brighton and Hove Albion are also reportedly interested in the winger.
