Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has made a massive prediction about the Red Devils’ plans for the upcoming January transfer window.

After a disastrous start to their season that saw them lose 6-1 at home against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur and get eliminated from the group stage of Champions League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have done very well to bring the season back on track.

In fact, it looks like they could be set to even challenge for the Premier League if they can continue at this rate. As things stand, they sit at third with a huge opportunity to go second when they take on Leicester City at the weekend. The Red Devils are just 5 points behind leaders Liverpool with an impressive game in hand as well.

Dimitar Berbatov believes that the side still needs some reinforcements in the January transfer window although he has predicted that it probably won’t happen. As reported by Goal, the former Manchester United star said:

"“They should be aiming to bring the title back to Old Trafford, especially in an unpredictable season when there is so much movement near the top and it is so tight.“The transfer window is about to open but, the way Manchester United attacked against Leeds and Sheffield United, I wouldn’t say the Red Devils need to bring in anyone up front.“I still think they need a centre-back but don’t expect anyone to come in next month.”"

It is no secret that United’s defence is their Achilles’ heel. They have looked spectacular going forward since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in the last January transfer window. But the side has continued to leak goals at the back, which will surely be a concern for Solskjaer if he has title aspirations this season.

As the old saying goes, offence wins you games but defence wins you championships. United might be winning games right now on the back of simply outscoring their opponents but it won’t be that simple against top oppositions. We have already seen glimpses of that this season against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur.

While the board should be delighted with the progress that they have made this season, we all know how tight this league is at the moment. A couple of bad results and Solskjaer might be back on the verge of getting sacked.
