Louis van Gaal has claimed that Marcus Rashford has hinted at a potential Manchester United exit in the future.

Louis van Gaal handed Marcus Rashford his Manchester United debut back in 2016. And although the Dutch manager is no longer at Old Trafford, that remains one of his biggest contributions to the club during his two-year stint there.

Rashford has grown in leaps and bounds since then and is now one of the best players at the club. Despite being just 23 years of age, the Englishman has already made 234 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 79 goals and providing 45 assists.

And if he remains at Old Trafford for a long time, there is no reason that he cannot send some records tumbling. Van Gaal appears to believe that the player has hinted that he is open to leaving the club in the future. As reported by the Mirror, the former Manchester United manager said:

"“I admire him for being such an honest and pure guy. He comes from an area where things are tough.“And the way he is fighting for less privileged kids is wonderful. He does a lot of stuff for the community. He is a great lad.“I enjoyed listening to him when he said he hopes to play at United for a long, long time.“But I listened carefully. And he did not say he would never play for another club.’’"

This an extreme form of reading between the lines from Van Gaal though. And to be very honest, you cannot expect Rashford to completely rule out leaving the club.

He is just 23 years of age and nobody knows what the future holds. Football is a sport where things change very quickly. And although he is one of the top stars at Old Trafford right now, there is no guarantee that things won’t change in the future.

As a result, it is smart on his part to keep all options open. That is just the life of a professional footballer. For the time being though, there is no doubt that he is a Manchester United player and completely dedicated to the club. He is one of the most consistent performers right now alongside Bruno Fernandes and is a huge reason why they have managed to recover from a disastrous start to the season and are near the top of the Premier League table now.
