Manchester United will have to spend €25 million to sign target
Manchester United will have to spend a transfer fee of around €25 million to sign their desired target in the upcoming January transfer window.
The start to the 2020-21 campaign was abysmal for Manchester United. And when it had seemed that the Red Devils had managed to steady the ship, two defeats (against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig) on the trot saw them getting knocked out of the Champions League in the Group Stage itself.
On-pitch miseries coupled with off-field chaos caused by the comments made by Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola have clearly had an negative impact on United’s campaign. The fans must have breathed a shy of relief when the Red Devils managed to hold Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on a showery Saturday afternoon.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has more than enough players – good and average – at his disposal to go through the hectic period of December and January. And if everything goes as swiftly as it currently seems, Manchester United might not even bring in new players in the winter transfer window.
According to a report from the Italian outlet Pianeta Milan, they still hold interest in AC Milan playmaker Hakan Çalhanoğlu though. But they are not alone in his pursuit as teams like Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on the Turkish international’s situation.

The story claims that AC Milan won’t be able to extend Çalhanoğlu’s current contract that is set to expire in June 2021, meaning he will be a free agent in the upcoming summer transfer window.
He has been an ever-present individual since joining the Rossoneri from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017. This season, the Turkish international has made 16 appearances, racking up five goals and four assists in all competitions.
As far as the aforementioned report is concerned, AC Milan want to keep him at the club. But the contrast between Milan’s offerings and Çalhanoğlu’s demands mean that it is unlikely that they will be able to agree to a deal.
It has also been mentioned that the Serie A toppers would let Çalhanoğlu go if an offer of around €25 million comes in during the January transfer window.
It is hard to judge this situation though. Perhaps Manchester United’s name has been used extensively to attract other suitors and hurry a deal. On the other hand, their interest might be concrete, in which case this would be another attractive saga surrounding the Red Devils.
