Three Premier League sides are pondering upon making a move for the out-of-favour Manchester United star ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

This is early December, and the countdown for the approaching winter transfer window has already begun. And as expected, the Manchester United rumour mill is in full swing.

From what the reports suggest, this could be another wait-and-watch transfer period when a team will assess their opportunities more than a thousand times before making a definitive move.

Financial conundrum followed by the ongoing global pandemic and the new post-Brexit rules regarding transfers will also make life harder for the clubs intending to sign players from foreign leagues. But, situations wouldn’t be that difficult if a Premier League club chooses to sign a player currently playing in the country.

And this is the very reason some out-of-favour veterans, who are currently spending their time sitting either on the bench or on the couches of their homes during matchdays, might find a new club in January. And according to Eurosport, Newcastle United, Leicester City and West Ham United are thinking about making a move for Manchester United defender Phil Jones in the upcoming January transfer window.

Jones, 28, is believed to be surplus to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s requirements. His exclusion from United’s 25-man Premier League squad was just proof of that. And the English defender is looking to leave the club as early as possible.

The report claims that Newcastle United are the firm favourites to win the race for his signature among the three clubs. Steve Bruce has been in close contact with Michael Carrick and tired to gauge the physical condition of Phil Jones, who has suffered several injuries in recent years.

Signed from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, Jones has played only 26 games under the management of Solskjaer, having been sidelined for most of the time with various long-term injuries.

The next summer transfer window will mark Phil Jones‘ ten years at the club. And he would be then eligible for a testimonial at Old Trafford. However, the possibilities of that happening are looking slim as a January move for the English centre-half seems imminent.
