Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on a forward they view as a potential replacement for Anthony Martial.

Anthony Martial’s start to the 2020-21 season couldn’t have been any worse. After a productive 2019-20 campaign where the Frenchman scored 23 goals in 48 matches across all competitions for Manchester United, the Frenchman was expected to showcase the same sort of hunger in front of goal this time around as well.

But now, with United knocked out of this season’s Champions League, Martial has managed only two goals — both in Europe — in around 871 minutes of football across all competitions.

While Martial’s goal drought in the Premier League is nothing but an alarm beeping distinctly to warn Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his shortcomings, unprecedented scenarios and injuries have played their roles in damaging the Frenchman’s morale this season as well.

Martial picked up a controversial red card in United’s 6-1 trashing to Tottenham Hotspur, gave away an own goal in their Champions League away game against PSG, was sidelined with some injury issues and also added a few jaw-dropping misses from clear-cut chances to his resume. Clearly they have all had an effect on the player’s individual performances.

According to a report from Eurosport, Martial could even leave Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window. And Solskjaer wants to replace the Frenchman by bringing Paulo Dybala from Juventus.

Just like Martial, Dybala has been pretty wasteful not only with his goal-scoring traits but also with his playmaking qualities this season. Under the guidance of a new manager in Andrea Pirlo, the Argentine forward has managed only a solitary goal and is yet to bag an assist despite playing 11 matches for the Italian champions so far.

Dybala’s contract at Turin is set to expire in June 2022. And, as far as the reports are concerned, there has hardly been any progress regarding Juventus handing him a contract renewal. As such, both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are keeping their eyes on the situation.

Both sides tried to lure Dybala to the Premier League back in the winter of 2019, with the 27-year-old staying put at Turin back then. Similar to Martial, a move away from his current side could help him reignite his professional career.
