Manchester United linked with the ‘Next Virgil van Dijk’
Manchester United will reportedly face stiff competition from a number of top clubs in their pursuit to sign the ‘Next Vigil van Dijk’.
Only his three-part name sometimes proves to be enough to extinguish the oppositions’ chances of not only winning but putting the ball past the goalkeeper. But if things go plan then Manchester United might have the ‘Next Virgil van Dijk’ in their ranks soon.
As far as the recent history is concerned, he came close to defying both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the grand stage of the Ballon d’Or. As a result, the Liverpool defender doesn’t need any introduction to football fans around the world.
The Dutchman has had led Jurgen Klopp’s side to some glorious victories, that include their sixth Champions League title in 2019 and a long-awaited Premier League in 2020, which they won for the first time in their history and a league title after a 30-year long wait.
At the Red side of Manchester, however, the search for their ‘Virgil van Dijk’ continues. And as per current reports, they might have found one.

Writing in his latest column for The Atheltic, David Ornstein reveals that Manchester United would certainly face competition from at least ten different clubs across Europe for Braga defender David Carmo.
The report even insists that the long list of interested parties bears the name of an unknown competitor — one from United’s ‘big six’ rivals.
AS Roma were reportedly interested in his services last summer and lodged a bid of around €17million, which got rejected straightaway by the Portuguese club.
Often compared to Van Dijk due to his ‘commanding physique’ and ‘ability on the ball’, Carmo, now 21, had a release clause of €20million in his previous contract. However, his new contract, which the player apparently signed last week, has raised that to €40million. And hence, it proves to be a substantial rise in valuation for the left-footed centre-back, who is bound to Braga until June 2025.
Do you think Manchester United pay €40million for Carmo?
