Manchester United reportedly had an offer of around €50 million turned down in the summer transfer window in what was another failed move for the club.

Manchester United seemed desperate as the international summer transfer window advanced towards its culmination. At the beginning of the summer, the hope amongst the Red Devils devotees was that the Manchester-based club would lure Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

But those hopes went down the drain as the deadline day of 5th October left nothing but a black spot of uncertainty in regard to the club’s transfer activities — Jadon Sancho never arrived at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

There were a plethora of alternatives mentioned in several media outlets when discussions turned into who the Red Devils should buy instead. One of the names that was not mentioned much was that of Moussa Diaby.

According to German outlet Sport Bild (via Sportwitness), the club made a verbal offer of around €50m for Diaby, which got rejected immediately by Bayer Leverkusen in the last summer transfer window.

Raised through the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain, Diaby joined the Bundesliga club in 2019 in the search of some regular game-time. Ever since joining Leverkusen, the Frenchman has earned himself 48 caps for the German side, racking up 10 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

The aforementioned report further claims that Bayer Leverkusen want to keep a sublime talent like Diaby for as long as they can and are currently working on extending the French under-21 international’s stay at the club.

As reported by Sport Witness, their sporting director in Rudi Völler said:

"“It wasn’t just Kai Havertz this summer. We had three or four other players who were the focus of foreign clubs. One of them was Moussa Diaby.”"

If reports are believed to be true, Manchester City have been a long-term admirers of the youngster as well, who can operate both off the left and the right-wing. For Manchester United, it was one of those short-lived sagas.
