Pundit says Manchester United shouldn’t start vs Arsenal
By Akash Dutta
Paul Merson believes that the Manchester United star should be brought on as a super sub in the second half against Arsenal.
Recently Manchester United have been producing some impressive results in the Premier League as well as the Champions League games and amidst them one particular player has stood out the most. That is none other than number 10 Marcus Rashford.
He has been the centre of attention for the past couple of weeks for his works both on and off the field, as he is done some great work in trying to feed children in the UK. But this effort has also brought some unjustified criticism towards him, questioning how dedicated he is towards his footballing career at the moment. But the 22-year old proved them wrong, scoring 7 times and providing 2 assists in only 9 games.
Paul Merson was able to follow a pattern in the playing style of the English International. It seemed like Rashford played well when he is brought on as a substitute in the latter half of the game. Recently in the match against RB Leipzig, he scored a hat-trick not long after coming on in the second half. He has also scored late in the matches against Newcastle United and PSG, although he did start on both these occasions.

According to the Metro, Paul made his analysis in the following manner:
"“When he starts, he doesn’t really score bundles of goals and often finds it difficult. But he came on this week against Leipzig and scored a hat-trick in 16 minutes!“If you look at when he scores his goals this season, they tell you a story. ‘He scored as a sub against Luton in the 88th minute in the EFL Cup. He scored in the second half against Brighton. He scored in the last minute against Newcastle. He scored with three minutes to go against Paris Saint-Germain and all his goals against Leipzig were at the end of the game. His goals are coming against tired defenders. Maybe United should experiment with that.”"
He has also stated that if the score is 0-0 against Arsenal after 60 minutes and Rashford comes on, United will have a better chance of winning the match than their opponents.
Merson strongly believes that Solskjaer should use the 22-year old as a super sub as he will be able to play better when the opposition’s defenders are tired and have a lesser chance of catching up to him, which in turn will open up a lot of chances for the Englishman to put the ball past the goalkeeper.
