The Liverpool legend has advised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against picking the Manchester United superstar vs Arsenal.

Manchester United will go into Sunday’s game against Arsenal full of confidence. And rightfully so as they have managed to rediscover their form after a stumbling start to the season.

A humiliating 6-1 win against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur appears to be the wake up call that Solskjaer’s side needed. Since then they have gone unbeaten, registering wins over the likes of Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig, while managing a 0-0 draw against a strong Chelsea side.

While Paul Pogba did start against RB Leipzig, he was on the bench for the other three games. And some United fans believe that Solskjaer might be tempted to use him as an impact sub for the foreseeable future considering how well things have worked since making the change.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol also appears to be the same belief. He has advised Solskjaer to drop Pogba back to the bench when Manchester United take on Arsenal tomorrow.

As reported by Mirror, the pundit told ESPN FC:

"“I’ve got to tell you that as soon as I look at this fixture and as soon as I think about it, as soon as I think of Man United, I think ‘Pogba’s not going to play again’.“So your highest-paid player, your most sought-after player, the face of the club, isn’t going to kick a ball, because if he does then the result might go against them.“Ole’s been going on all week about how great he was against Leipzig and how he’s getting fitter and waxing lyrical about him.“But he’s not going to play and he shouldn’t play, because when he plays they’re just not the same.”"

While considered one of the premium talents in Europe, it is undeniable that the Frenchman has not managed to produce consistently while playing for Manchester United. And while he might be the most profile name at the club, he certainly is no longer the most influential since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January.

As rumours continue to swirl about him possibly leaving the club in the near future, Solskjaer might do well to already start preparing for life after Pogba. And considering how well the side have done in his absence in recent weeks, it might not be too hard for him to drop him back to the bench against Arsenal.

Whatever decision he takes, it will tell a lot about his future plans for the French midfielder.
