Liverpool have joined the race for the Manchester United transfer target, with an Italian team also interesting in snapping up the ‘wonderkid’.

If you are a Manchester United fan and want to be optimistic about the club’s recent transfer activities, it is not the senior department but the junior ranks that got bulked up heavily with some high profile signings from across the globe in the summer transfer window.

From Marc Jurado, Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, Alejandro Garnacho to Charlie McNeill, Isak Hansen-Aaoren, Logan Pye, Joe Hugill, and Radek Vitek, the Red Devils’ recruitment team ran riot in the summer transfer market when it came to strengthening the youth sections.

And it seems as if their knack for bringing in the young starlets across the world continues to be a key feature behind United’s foundation going forward.

According to a report from Swedish outlet Expressen, United’s arch-rivals Liverpool have joined them in the race for Isak Bergmann Johannesson. Besides the two Premier League giants, Juventus have also shown a concrete interest in the Icelandic teenager.

Speaking to Expressen, the club’s chief scout Stig Torbjornsen said:

"“It has been a great interest. It’s fun that we have many interesting players but it’s no secret that clubs are chasing Bergmann Johannesson.“Norrkoping has quite a lot of money and no need to sell and Isak has a sensible agent and family who know what they want and when he should go. It’s no stress for us, it’s rolling on. When something comes up that is good for all parties, something may happen.’“Yes [Liverpool are one of the clubs, but] you can name all 10 best clubs in Europe. Everyone has been here for him, they are all curious. Liverpool is a club, there are 10 others as well. It is normal and fun for the association and Isak himself.“A club with a lot of money may appear tomorrow or in six months. It is good that Isak is calm and has a good counselor and family. Norrkoping has no stress.”"

The story claims that Liverpool have sent their scout, Mads Jorgensen, to watch the 17-year-old, who plays for IFK Norrkoping in Swedish top division. The ‘wonderkid’ has reportedly become a regular first-team footballer recently, having scored three goals and provided eight assists for Norrkoping this season so far.

Over the years, Manchester United have done quite well in regard to adding talented names to the youth ranks. And having a manager like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer means a youth player could look forward to cherishing their dream of playing for the senior side if they are capable of doing so. When it comes to Ole, if you are good enough, you are old enough.

United currently have one of the best academies in the world. And it is a good sign that they are continuously investing in it.
