Manchester City are on the cusp of making a shock move for a winger that Manchester United have been monitoring for a while.

Manchester United and Manchester City share a bitter rivalry both on and off the pitch. While the red side of the city can boast about their history with regard to winning trophies in the past, the blue side has been the more successful side over the past decade.

However, United came on top last season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went on to defeat the Cityzens both home and away in the Premier League. Now, it can be said that Pep Guardiola has now found a new way to get one over their arch-rivals away from the footballing pitch.

According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester City are ready to make a swoop for the talented 18-year-old winger Filip Stevanovic from Partizan Belgrade.

FStevanovic was heavily linked with a summer to Old Trafford back in August. Even a reputed transfer guru in Fabrizio Romano confirmed the rumours suggesting there would only be one destination for the teenager and that would be Old Trafford.

However, things since then have made a swift turn as Manchester City are now leading the race to lure the winger, who prefers playing from the left but also can play on the right-wing. Should the reports be true, Manchester City will pay Partizan a transfer fee of £6 million for Stevanovic.

Having played 53 senior matches for Partizan, Stevanovic has already proved his talent and showcased he deserves to play in a big team in a more renowned competition.

Since Leroy Sane joined Bayern Munich in the last summer transfer window, a void has been left on City’s left-wing position, where Raheem Sterling remains the only candidate to provide cover. As a result, Stevanovic could actually be a bright signing for the Cityzens — one who could add a surprise element to their game plan.

As for Manchester United, their left-wing is crowded with names like Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Anthony Martial, who loves playing from that side of the pitch although he has been used as a striker recently.

The Red Devils signed two 18-year-old prodigies in Amad Diallo Traore and Facundo Pellistri on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. Although none of them is the desired left-winger, both are the gems for the future. Thus, it is questionable whether they would still want to sign the Serbian.
