With Harry Maguire out against Paris Saint-Germain with an injury, Manchester United have named their captain for the game.

The 4-1 victory at the Saint James’ Park was a much needed win for Manchester United as it definitely boosted the confidence of the players ahead of their clash against Paris Saint-Germain. Solskjaer’s  side were coming off the back of a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and needed a positive result heading into one of the biggest games of their season.

Strong speculations were made against Maguire over his role of captaincy. He even failed to perform on the international stage as the England defender was sent off before Christian Eriksen’s penalty handed Denmark a 1-0 win.

Despite his recent performances, Ole Gunner Solskjaer was confident in his decisions and included the centre-back in his starting XI against Newcastle United. Things were not looking good for the Red Devils as they conceded an own goal within 2 minutes of the first half. And it was a sensational header from the skipper which equalised the score and turned the tables around for Manchester United.

In the end, it was Bruno who made the difference, heavily influencing the result in the dying stages of the game. Even with one of his goals being disallowed due to offside and missing his penalty kick as well, he was still able to score in the final minutes of the game which game United the 2-1 lead over Newcastle.

Solskajer surprised the Portuguese by announcing the he will lead Man United against PSG after hailing his recent performance. Although reports from Express have claimed that Maguire has sustained a “small muscle tear” which is the reason for him not being included in the squad to take on PSG.

With the skipper absent from the squad, Solskjaer did not hesitate to hand over the armband to Fernandes.

As reported by Goal, Solskajer said:

"“Bruno has come in and had great impact with all the stats showing that, his performances have been receiving real great praise as well. He has not changed the team, but he has sparked the team.”"

Bruno had no idea that he was going to lead United and here’s what he said about the decision made by Solskjaer:

"“I was not expecting this, I have found out the same time as you [reporter], but I think everyone is the captain. Everyone needs to help and be a leader in their own way; leadership is different in every player. Tomorrow will not be about me but the team.“Leading is every day in the training ground, every game and everyone is doing their job to lead the team in the way they think is best.”"

It will be exciting to see how things turn out on Tuesday in Paris. Solskjaer will go into the match with happy memories of the fixture and will be hoping that his side can repeat the heroics from a couple of years ago, a result which probably secured the Norwegian’s job as Manchester United manager.
