Manchester United might be set to make another move for Ousmane Dembele after failing to bring him to Old Trafford the first time around.

Manchester United failed to sign a number of their targets in the recently closed summer transfer window. But the Red Devils are expected to resurge their interest in signing Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona in the upcoming January transfer window after failing to lure the Frenchman on Deadline Day.

The Deadline Day of the bygone summer transfer window was a hectic one not only for fans but also for the club. They announced four signings on the trot in the form of Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo Traore.

On top of that, there was no shortage of rumours linking players with a potential move to Old Trafford at the very last moment and one of the many names that were touted heavily with a possible move to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ was that of FC Barcelona winger, Ousmane Dembele.

According to a report recently published in the Spanish outlet named SPORT and as cited by Sportwitness, the 23-year-old Frenchman was very close to joining Manchester United on a season-long loan deal. However, the deal fell apart when Dembele refused to sign a contract renewal with Barcelona on the dying minutes.

More from Manchester United Transfer Rumours

Barca’s plan was to make him sign a long-term extension and transfer him to the Red Devils right away. Yet, Dembele restrained himself from talking any decision in an abrupt manner.

Furthermore, it has also been claimed that Barca’s failure in offloading Dembele from their ranks resulted in the Catalan club failing to reach a deal for Lyon forward Memphis Depay on the transfer deadline day, someone Ronald Koeman wanted to add to his squad badly.

There is an understanding that Barcelona would love to sell Dembele in the upcoming January transfer window. And there have also been claims of the club wanting in excess of €50m.

Manchester United signed two young right-wingers on 5th October in Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo Traore. While the former has already joined up with the squad, the latter will join his new teammates in January.

It will be interesting to see though if they still feel that Dembele is required when January rolls around.
