Manchester United drop 3 stars from Champions League squad
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to drop three big names from Manchester United’s Champions League squad for the upcoming season.
It looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not going to hide from making tough decisions this season and he has already shown that by dropping three big names from Manchester United’s Champions League squad for the upcoming season.
Sergio Romero, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been left out of the Red Devils’ 25-man squad as they prepare to take on Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir in a tough Champions League group. On the other hand, new signings Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri have all found their spots.
Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Teden Mengi are on the B-list as homegrown stars and can be named in the squad up until the midnight before the game if the situation calls for it.
While the exclusion of Jones and Rojo were pretty much expected, that of Romero is a bit of a shocker. The Argentine performed admirably when given the chance and there were calls for him to be made the first-team keeper when David de Gea was struggling badly at the end of the season.
The arrival of Dean Henderson has changed everything though and now he is expected to be in a tussle for the gloves with his Spanish counterpart. This has left Romero as the odd man out and it looks like he has fallen behind even Lee Grant in the pecking order, who made the squad.
On the other hand, Jones and Rojo were expected to be left out. With the presence of Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe in the squad, the duo are surplus to requirements at this moment. And do not be surprised if you do not see them at Old Trafford by this time next year.
